My Teaching Philosophy

I teach a balance of subject area knowledge, problem-solving and study habit skills. Children learn in many different ways. Your child will be allowed to learn at their own pace and be taught according to their individual learning style. I will create a personalized program that offers homework assistance, basic skills development, test preparation, confidence building, and organizational skills.

What to expect:

Introduction:
The first step would be to set up a free consultation where I can meet with you and your child to discuss the areas of concern.

Student Assessment:
During this time, several assessments will be done to help determine your child's level of proficiency in the subject areas. I typically accomplish this through formal (test) assessments and informal questions. I will also ask to see your child's school work and report card. In addition, a phone meeting can be setup between your child's teacher and myself to discuss areas that need improvement or future curriculum.

Determine Needs:
Once the assessments have been reviewed, I can better determine your child's proficiency level and suggest a starting point to strengthen these areas. An individualized program will be created and the amount of time needed to accomplish these goals will be discussed.

On-going Assessments:
On-going checkpoints will be established to ensure your child is progressing and results are being achieved. Our goal is to not only improve report card grades but also develop better study habits, time-management and organizational skills. The benefits of a good education will last well beyond your child's school years.
